Rynex Creek of the Plotter Kill Preserve.
I've read that there are doubts to the survival of the Karner Blue Butterfly in this area, but I could have sworn I spotted the tiny blue butterfly on the way in. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a picture.
Rynex Creek pours over a 40 foot waterfall, just a trickle at the time I went. Most of the creek bed was dry, so I was able to sit down and have lunch at the edge of the falls. It was one of the most satisfying meals I've ever had (and a Lunchable with a couple of granola bars at that).
I arrived in the preserve at 9:00 AM and left at 5:00 PM. I didn't remember the trail system correctly so I started walking the 9 mile long red trail all the way around the preserve thinking it was only 3 miles. I got about 2 1/2 in and realized we were way off track... so we turned around. My boots and jeans were soaked with mud. They felt like they weighed fifty pounds. I was completely exhausted.
